Hello SoS pals!
You might be wondering what we’ve been up to since our week on Eigg, where we worked til the wee small hours to arrange, rehearse and record an album of songs on the theme of ‘separation’? It was a fantastic experience – hope you’ve been spying on us through our videos on youtube?!
We’ve come back down to earth now (and back to the mainland!) to complete the process…
The team is working on the mixing, the artwork, the sleeve notes, the different release options, promotion, the musico-legal bumf, finance and funders’ reports, booking gigs (we have some dates in January 2016 that we will be able to share with you shortly, and very likely some more dates in May 2016). We’ve also done a stack of media interviews, which is really exciting and will hopefully help us reach new audiences! In the next wee while, we’ll be uploading the videos from the residential week here (available on youtube already), and some of the radio interviews. We hope you enjoy them!
Many Many Thank Yous
Songs of Separation began in 2013, when Jen Hill came up with the idea to bring together ten brilliant Scottish and English folk musicians, to create music on a really topical theme. It was just coming up to the Scottish Independence Referendum, which sparked the idea of ‘thinking differently’ about separation. In the two years that followed, she received a huge amount of support for the production of the work, from all sorts of different people. From friends to funders, from photographers to caterers to academics, experts in music production, to the excellent Eiggach (people who live on The Isle of Eigg) and who made our week there so enjoyable. In addition to the nine other musicians who helped make the music happen, thanks and appreciation go to:
- Andrew Dawson
