We are delighted to announce that the Songs of Separation website is now live!
We’d very much like to keep in touch with you, to hear your thoughts and suggestions about the work, and to share video footage of rehearsals, recording sessions and discussion. Please ‘like’ us on Facebook, or join our mailing list to keep in touch.
What is Songs of Separation?
The SoS project is a response to the world we live in. It will bring together ten brilliant UK musicians to create a recording of traditional songs which prompt discussion and reflection on ‘what divides us’ and how we can overcome it, and ‘what brings us together’ and how we can celebrate this.
The project includes:
- A residential rehearsal and recording week on the Isle of Eigg, in June 2015
- An album of exceptional arrangements of traditional song, exploring and encompassing the different musical traditions of the musicians involved
- Video shorts and a ‘making of’ documentary, which will help to share the messages of the work and reach new listeners
- Two site-based recordings at the sites of the Big Women of Eigg legend
- A community song workshop, open to all (join our mailing list if you want to find out more)
- A community session, open to all (join our mailing list to find out more)
The website contains details of the musicians involved in the work, along with examples of their music and information about the recording week and the Isle of Eigg. Please have a look and a listen, and enjoy!
If you are interested in finding out more about the work, or would like to explore a similar package of support for a music project on Eigg, please get in touch.
